Organisation: Promenade concerts Short Biography: Concert series founded by Henry Wood in 1895. First at the Queen's Hall, then moved to the Royal Albert Hall in 1939. Sponsored and supported by the BBC from 1927-1939 and 1942 onwards. Distinguished from other concert series by the large amount of "promming", i.e. standing room available at a very cheap price. Also known as the "London Henry Wood Promenade Concerts", the "BBC proms" and "The Proms" among other names.
