Description
Clare College boasts a thriving Music Society which presents regular orchestral, choral and chamber concerts. Its Monday Lunchtime recitals are part of the established Cambridge concert calendar during term time. Many of those taking part in such concerts have since gone to forge successful careers as professional musicians. They include: conductors Sir Roger Norrington, Robin Ticciati, Ivor Bolton and Richard Egarr, singers Elin Manahan Thomas and Simon Bailey, violinists Margaret Faultless and Andrew Manze, composer John Rutter, organists David Dunnett and Stephen Farr, as well as musicians such as Richard Stilgoe and Kit Hesketh-Harvey.
Concerts generally take place in College Hall or Chapel, Senate House or West Road Concert Hall. Each academic year follows a similar pattern with a series of Monday lunchtime concerts each term, a number of larger orchestral and/or choral concerts across the year, occasional other performances either of the Chapel Choir or visiting ensembles, culminating in the May Week concert held in the second or third week of June.
These programmes are housed in Clare College archive in three boxes each containing programmes for events as described above, together with a further box of a small selection of posters, handbills, commemoration feast menus and term cards for Chapel services as follows:
