Collection Description

Collection Title
André Mangeot: Box 6 (1940-61)
A miscellaneous collection of handbills and programmes for performances featuring the violinist André Mangeot, given at various European venues – predominantly England – between 1940 and 1961, held loosely and arranged chronologically in the last of six boxes of material comprising the André Mangeot collection.

The box also includes prospectuses/Official Programmes for the Festival de Prades given annually from 1952-54, 1956, 1958, 1959 and 1961-62, under the direction of Pablo Casals, with an individual handbill for Monday 5 June [1950].

In addition to programmes for performances featuring Mangeot, there are programmes for two violin recitals by Yehudi Menuhin given at the Freemasons' Hall, Edinburgh on 31 August and 7 September 1953 as part of the Edinburgh International Festival of Music and Drama, for which Mangeot provided programme notes (with musical examples).

Mangeot appeared at these concerts as a solo violinist, conductor and member of chamber ensembles, most notably the International String Quartet, the Cembalo Trio and (from 1940) the Andre Mangeot Quartet.

Programmes are listed here by venue, with the English venues followed by European ones. The documentation for the majority of concerts consists simply of a handbill/single-page programme.
