Collection Title
Concert Programmes & Bills (1816-55)
Unique Identifier
Playbills 320
Description
A miscellaneous collection of handbills and programmes for performances given at various venues in London – principally the Concert Room of the King's Theatre/Her Majesty's Theatre and the Concert Rooms, Hanover Square – between 1816 and 1853, arranged in a largely chronological order within a single volume.

The collection also includes a programme for a People's Concert given on 23 April 1855 at an unspecified venue in Leeds.

The majority of these items – particularly those for the King's Theatre and the Hanover Square Rooms – relate to annual benefit performances, a large number of which were conducted by Sir George Smart. Documentation for these consists principally of handbills/single-sheet programmes, although there are also posters and flyers for certain performances.
