One folder of programmes from South Africa, from 1900 onwards. The collection includes a significant amount of items from the early twentieth century. The majority of items in the collection are from Cape Town.
Cape Town (1900-)
The majority of programmes are from concerts given in the City Hall. These were largely orchestral concerts, including performances by the Capetown Municipal Orchestra and the Capetown Orchestra. Other venues represented in the collection include the following: Opera House; Hiddingh Hall (University of Cape Town); Nico Malan Opera House; South Africa College of Music.
The collection also includes programmes from Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria. These include programmes from the following venues: City Hall, Durban; Town Hall, Durban; Masonic Hall, Jeppe Street, Johannesburg; Rhodes Park, Kensington, Johannesburg; Opera House, Pretoria. In addition, the collection includes a number of items from tours, multi-venue programmes and programmes where the location within South Africa is not possible to ascertain.
The programmes are divided by town/city, then by concert venue, then by date.

The CPH collections now form part of the RCM Library. The majority of the concert programme collections are stored off-site so you need to request items before arriving. Requests for programmes are processed on Thursday for delivery to the library the following week. The Library itself is open Monday to Friday during term times and Tuesday to Friday during vacations.
