Collection Description

Collection Title
Scottish provinces: Edinburgh: Theatre Royal (1831-1910)
A collection of three playbills and prospectuses from the Theatre Royal, from 1831 to 1910.

The first item in the collection is a playbill from 24 December 1831. The playbill is a benefit evening for Miss Paton, and includes a performance of a Shakespeare play as well as a vocal concert. The concert consisted of vocal items, including solo items, duets and trios. The performers included Miss Paton, Miss Eliza Paton (assumed to be another singer) and Mr White. The concert was followed by a dramatic work, which featured Miss Paton.

The second item in the collection is a playbill from 9 February 1833. The evening's featured performer was Mr Bochsa, a harpist. The event included pieces for harp, opera arias, a melo-drama and a "grand opera". Other performers included Mr Sapio (vocalist) and the Military Band of the Queen's Bays.

The final item in the collection is a prospectus from opera performances given by Cavaliere F. Castellano's Italian Grand Opera Company.
