McCann Collection: United Kingdom (1938)
A collection of one box of programmes from the McCann collection, from 1938. The collection contains programmes from concerts given in the United Kingdom. The programmes were collected by the concert agent Norman McCann (1920-1999).

The contents of the collection are as follows:

Queen’s Hall – 21 programmes

Royal Albert Hall – 13 programmes

Other London venues:
St. Paul’s Cathedral; New Burlington Galleries, Burlington Gardens; People’s Palace (2); Alexandra Palace; Central Hall, Westminster; Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (2); Concert Hall, Broadcasting House; Aeolian Hall (2); Maida Vale Studio; Palladium (3); Sadler’s Wells Theatre; Morley Hall [Lambeth]; Wigmore Hall (4); North End Hall, Croydon.

In addition, there are two London Orchestra Guides which list concerts for various venues in London. There is also a programme for the Sibelius Festival; this featured six concerts, shared between the Queen’s Hall and Aeolian Hall. There is a festival programme for the “International Society for Contemporary Music, which took place in London in 1938.

In addition, there are two prospectuses for the 81st season of Hallé concerts. The venue is not specified, but it is assumed that it was the Free Trade Hall, Manchester.

There is a programme from the Bourne Music Club, where the venue is not specified. There is also a guide to BBC music programmes from October to December: this gives details of broadcast concerts from various venues. There are 11 programmes from the “International General Electric Co Short Wave Program”. These took place at an unspecified venue. There are another seven programmes from concerts with unspecified venues or concerts that formed part of a multi-venue tour.
