McCann Collection: United Kingdom (1919)
Description
A collection of one box of programmes from the McCann collection, from 1919. The collection contains programmes from concerts given in the United Kingdom. The programmes were collected by the concert agent Norman McCann (1920-1999).
The contents of the collection are as follows:
London:
Queen's Hall – 9 programmes
The collection includes four programmes from the concert series "Henry Wood Promenade Concerts"
Royal Albert Hall – 19 programmes; 2 books of words
The collection includes 11 programmes and two books of words from the concert series "London Ballad Concerts".
Aeolian Hall – 16 programmes, plus press cuttings
Other London venues:
London Coliseum (2); Hyde Park.
Llandudno:
Pier Pavilion – 29 programmes
The programmes are from orchestral concerts, given by an orchestra entitled "Pier's Company Orchestra".
Other provincial venues:
West Pier, Brighton; Aquarium Winter Gardens, Brighton (3); Repertory Theatre, Birmingham; Usher Hall; Royal Albert Institute, Windsor; Hove Town Hall; Victoria Hall, Sheffield; Free Trade Hall; Winter Gardens, New Brighton; Garrison Theatre, Catterick.
In addition, there are four prospectuses from concerts given by the Municipal Orchestra, Bournemouth: these took place in either the Winter Gardens or Bournemouth Pier.
There is a prospectus for the Armstrong-Siddeley Orchestra. Though the venues are given as "Opera House" and "Canteen Parkside", the geographic location of these venues is unknown. There is also a programme from a "Cramer Ballad Concert". This took place at a town hall, in an unspecified geographic location. There is one programme from a multi-venue tour.
