McCann Collection: United Kingdom (1880-1889)
A collection of approximately 100 programmes from the McCann collection, from 1880 and 1889. The collection contains programmes from concerts given in the United Kingdom. The programmes were collected by the concert agent Norman McCann (1920-1999).

The contents of the collection are as follows:


St. James's Hall – 36 programmes, plus press cuttings
The collection contains six programmes from Monday popular concerts, as well as a few press cuttings. Some of the programmes are analytical programmes; others single leaf music lists. There are eight programmes from "Richter concerts" in the collection, as well as five programmes from "Symphony concerts" or "London Symphony Concerts". The collection includes five programmes from concerts organised by the Philharmonic Society. There is also a programme from a concert featuring performances by the composer Edvard Grieg, Nina Grieg (his wife), and another singer. This concert – entitled "Herr Edvard Grieg's evening concert" – consisted exclusively of Grieg's music.

Royal Albert Hall – 10 programmes
The collection contains eight programmes from the "West Theatre", and two programmes from the main Hall.

Leeds Popular Concerts – 4 programmes
There are three programmes from the Coliseum, Leeds, and one programme from the Town Hall, Leeds.

Shaftesbury Hall, Bournemouth; Town Hall, Ayr; Corn Exchange, Stamford; Llandudno Pier; Albert Institute, Windsor; Town Hall, Oxford (2 copies); St. Andrew’s Hall, Glasgow; Pump Room, Tunbridge Wells; Devonshire Park, Eastbourne; Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford; Town Hall, Maidenhead (3 copies); Assembly Room, Barnesley (2 copies); Brighton Aquarium.

There are two programmes from concerts given by the Edinburgh Choral Union, where the venue is not specified. There is a programme which details the Orpheus Choral Society’s 1889-1890 season; though it does not indicate where the concert took place, the rehearsals were held at Schools, Islip Street. There are two programmes from the Central Exchange Art Gallery: the geographic location of this venue is not known. There is one programme from a concert entitled "Mr John Thomas's autumnal concert tour" - Thomas is listed as a harp player - which does not list concert venues. There is a programme from a series of three concerts organised by the International Inventions, London, in 1885. However, the venue is not specified.
