Collection Description

Collection Title
London: Houses: Non-Private: Leighton House (1899-2002)
Description
A collection of approximately 180 programmes and prospectuses from Leighton House, Holland Park, from 1899 to 2002.

There are a number of programmes from the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These are largely from chamber concerts, but also include a few programmes from concerts exclusively featuring performances of madrigals. A number of programmes from this time-period are from the concert series "Leighton House Chamber Concerts". As well as concert programmes, there is a programme from a lecture. The lecture was given in 1901 by "Mrs. Newmarch" [assumed to be the writer, Rosa Newmarch], which included "vocal illustrations" by Mrs. Henry Wood, Mr. H. Lane Wilson and Mr. Henry J. Wood.

The majority of programmes from the middle and late twentieth century are also from recitals. In addition, a number of programmes are from concerts organised by "Kensington & Chelsea Music Society" (1990s).

Arrangement:
The programmes are arranged chronologically, with undated items housed at the end of the sequence.
