Collection Description

Collection Title
London: Conservatoires: Guildhall School of Music and Drama (1896-2002)
Description
One box of programmes from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, from 1896 to 2002. Early materials in the collection are entitled "Guildhall School of Music". The collection includes concert programmes, concert diaries and opera programmes.

The collection largely consists of material from events organised by Guildhall School of Music and Drama. However, it also includes a small amount of material from external events which took place in the Guildhall buildings. The collection covers the period when the Guildhall School of Music (and Drama) was located in John Carpenter Street (Victoria Embankment) and then Silk Street, from 1977 onwards. Concerts organised by the Guildhall usually took place on the premises – from 1977 onwards, most frequently in the Music Hall or the Theatre – however the collection also contains programmes from concerts which took place in other London venues. These venues include the following: Purcell Room; St. Johns, Smith Square; City University Great Hall.

In addition to concert and opera programmes, the collection contains a small amount of programmes from master-classes, competitions and a prize-giving ceremony (held at Mansion House).

Arrangement:
The programmes are arranged chronologically.
