Collection Description

Collection Title
London: Churches: St. Marylebone Parish Church (1946-2001)
A collection of one box of programmes from St. Marylebone Parish Church, from 1946 to 2001. The majority of programmes are from the 1970s and 1980s. Though there is a variety of concert genres represented in the collection, most of the programmes are from sacred concerts. There are programmes from oratorios, large-scale choral works, short sacred vocal concerts and Christmas carol concerts. The majority of programmes in the collection are from concerts organised by the London Bach Society. These were performances of passions and other large-scale choral works given by the London Bach Society (founded in 1947 by Steinitz), Steinitz Bach Players (founded in 1969 by Steinitz), Wandsworth School Boys’ Choir - all conducted by Paul Steinitz. These performances were in German and “complete”; some of the performances were of alternative versions of works, for example the 1725 version of St. John Passion (J. S. Bach). The remainder of programmes in the collection include material from the Renaissance Society, usually featuring the Renaissance Singers. There are also a few programmes from services, including a service sheet from the memorial service to Paul Steinitz in 1988.

The programmes are arranged chronologically.
