The collection ranges from 1933 onwards, with virtually every item dating from the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s. Within the collection, performances from the 1940s are particularly well documented. The largest concert series represented in the collection is the “Sunday concerts”: the collection is particularly, though not entirely, complete between 1942 and 1945 for this concert series. The programmes from this series are from orchestra concerts. These were mainly given by the London Symphony Orchestra until 1945 and by the New London Orchestra from 1945 onwards. There are also programmes from a preceding series entitled the "Sunday celebrity concerts", from 1941 to mid-1942. The collection also contains programmes from the "London Theatre Concerts". These feature both chamber music and orchestral concerts, and the collection has programmes from both the 1937-8 and 1938-9 series. Opera programmes are often associated with the Music and Drama Society, and a significant amount of opera programmes in the collection feature the New London Opera Company. The opera programmes in the collection largely date from 1946 to 1951.
Programmes are arranged chronologically. The exception to this is a small amount of programmes from 1941, which are kept separately at the beginning of the other 1941 programmes.
