Collection Description

Collection Title
Nashville concert programmes (1945-55)
Unique Identifier
A collection of Bulletins of the George Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, Tennessee (Division of Music) for the periods 1945-47, 1947-49, 1949-51 and 1953-55, held as four volumes.

Each Bulletin begins with a Foreword, accompanied by a list of the Faculty Staff. This is followed by programmes and wordbooks (some with descriptive notes) for various types of performances given at the College, the majority in the Auditorium of the Social-Religious Building.

Each Foreword provides a retrospective summary of the activity documented by the programmes and concludes with a list of the most prominent artists to appear.

The following categories of programmes appear in all four volumes (the figures in brackets indicating the number of performances of this type given in each case):

Faculty Concert Series (14, 10, 17 and 23)
Student Organizations Concerts (18, 14, 14, 10)
Student Recital Series (25, 34, 43 and 30)
Miscellaneous Programmes (17, 25, 23 and 17)

In volumes 1-3, these constitute Parts I-IV of the publication. In volume 4, they are punctuated by programmes for Contemporary Music Symposiums (Part 3, 3 programmes) and Summer Concert Series (Part 6, 15 programmes).

All programmes provide detailed information regarding the performers engaged, including, where appropriate, lists of the choral and orchestral ensembles.
