A complete set of programmes with words for the four morning and two evening performances given between 25 and 28 August 1846 at the Town Hall, Birmingham as the Birmingham Musical Festival.

The festival was conducted at Mr Moscheles and included the first performance of Mendelssohn, Elijah, directed by the composer.

Bound at the end of the volume is a document which includes a record of the principal vocal performers engaged (see below), lists of the choral and orchestral ensemble, and a list of the Donations to the Festival. There is also a handwritten document detailing the receipts and profits at each Festival since 1799.

Principal vocalists: Madame Grisi, Madame Caradori Allan, Miss Bassano and Miss A. Williams; Miss Maria B. Hawes, Miss M Williams; Signor Mario, Mr Braham, Mr Hobbs and Mr Lockey; Herr Staudigl, Mr H. Phillips, Signor F. Lablache and Mr Machin.

26 August: Mendelssohn, Elijah (composed expressly for this festival).
27 August: Handel, The Messiah.
28 August: Beethoven, Grand Mass in D; Sphor, Hymn; Miscellaneous Selection of Music.
