Description
A collection of 96 programmes and wordbooks for performances given by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra between 1956 and 1978, arranged chronologically and held as three bound volumes: 1956–63; 1964–66; and 1967–78.
Also, a further volume containing a complete run of prospectuses for the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra seasons 112 to 125 and a souvenir brochure for performances of Mozart, Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni and Rossini, La Cenerentola, given by Glyndebourne Festival Opera (by arrangement with the Liverpool City Council) between 10 and 12 September 1956.
In addition to preliminary programmes and other information regarding the various concert series given each season, each of the prospectuses includes the following material: a brief introduction/Foreword; historical/descriptive discussion of the repertory for the season; much information concerning the Liverpool Philharmonic Society (including lists of the Committee and, later, Members); information regarding ticket sales (including a seating plan); photographs of key performers; and an Index of Works. Many of the brochures for later seasons also provide brief biographical notes and a list of the orchestral ensemble.

1. Liverpool Philharmonic Society Limited (44 programmes)
Programme booklets for various series of concerts organized by the Liverpool Philharmonic Society and given, unless otherwise stated below, by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. All programmes include historical and descriptive notes and the majority provide a list of the orchestral ensemble. Although no venue is given for those concerts held in Liverpool, this might be assumed to have been the Philharmonic Hall. Where no other indication is given in parenthesis below, these performances were conducted by Charles Groves.

Programmes booklets for performances given by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at the Town Hall Leeds, presented by the City of Leeds Music and Civic Theatre Committee. Each booklet contains biographical, historical and descriptive notes.
Volume 1: 23 January, 30 April and 12 November 1960; 1 April and 9 December 1961; and 31 March 1962. With the exception of the concerts given on 12 November 1960 (Sir Malcolm Sargent) and 31 March 1962 (Norman Del Mar) all performances were conducted by John Pritchard.
Volume 2: 18 January and 29 February 1964; 16 January and 25 September 1965; 26 March 1966. All performances were conducted by Charles Groves.
Volume 3: 28 January, 27 May and 14 October 1967; 20 April 1968; 1 February 1969; 2 January and 23 October 1971; 22 November 1975; 2 April 1977; and 7 January 1978. With the exception of the concerts on 27 May (Donald Hunt) and 14 October 1967 (Peter Erös), 23 October 1971 (Janos Fürst), 2 April 1977 (Zdenek Macal) and 7 January 1978 (Elgar Howarth), all performances were conducted by Charles Groves.

Wordbooks for choral performances accompanied by the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra given at St. George's Hall, Bradford. The concerts on 26 November 1965, 8 December 1967 and 4 December 1970, were conducted by Charles Groves, as were the performances from 1975 onwards. The remainder were conducted by David Willcocks.
