Description
A collection of analytical programmes for performances given by the Hallé Orchestra/ Hallé Concerts Society at various venues in England – notably Manchester and other locations in the north of the country – between 1952 and 1969, arranged chronologically and held as 11 bound volumes: 1952–64; January–June 1965; July–December 1965; January–April 1966; May–December 1966; January–June 1967; July–December 1967; January–April 1968; May–December 1968; Jan–June 1969; and July–December 1969.

Also, a further volume containing a set of seasonal prospectuses for the Hallé Concert series given between 1952 and 1969 (missing those for 1954–55, 1957–58 and 1962–63). Each prospectus contains the following material: a summary of the programmes for the season; a list of the Committee Members and Members of the Hallé Concert Society; a list of the vocal and instrumental soloists engaged (with photos and biographical notes); a number of introductory essays on musical topics; ticket information (with prices and seating plans); and an Index of Composers and Their Music.

All programmes included biographical, historical and analytical notes, with musical examples. Many include photographs of the principal performers and a list of the orchestral ensemble.

The names of the conductors are provided in parenthesis below, with the following abbreviations for the most frequent performers: MA (Moshe Atzmon), JB (Sir John Barbirolli), MH (Maurice Handford), LL (Lawrence Leonard) and GT (George Tzipine).

Unless otherwise stated, all concerts featured the Hallé Orchestra. Where two dates are dived thus 21/22 April, a single document is held for 2 performances of the same programme.
