Description
Programmes for the six concerts given at the Queen's Hall London by the Lamoureux Orchestra and the Queen's Hall Orchestra between 30 April and 5 May 1900 as the London Musical Festival, held as a bound volume.
These concerts were conducted by Henry Wood (nos. 1, 4 and 5) and Camille Chevillard (nos. 2, 3 and 6) and each included a work being given for the first time.
The programmes all provide lists of the orchestral ensembles and including Historical and Analytical Notes (with musical examples) by Edgar F. Jacques.
30 April: Clara Butt and Lillian Blauvelt (vocal), including the first performance of Percy Pitt, Symphonic Prelude, Le Sang des Crépuscules.
1 May: Madame Albani (vocal), including the first English performance of Léon Moreau, Symphonic Poem, Sur la mer lointaine.
2 May: Ysaye (violin), including Ch. Silver, Rhapsodie Sicilienne (first English performance).
3 May: Ysaye (violin), including S. Coleridge-Taylor, Overture 'Hiawatha' (first London performance).
4 May: Madame Blanche Marchesi (vocal), including the first London performance of Granville Bantock, Orchestral Poem, Thalaba, the Destroyer.
5 May: Miss Lillian Blauvelt (vocal), including the first English performance of Chevillard, Symphonic Poem, Le Chène et le Roseau.
