A collection of analytical programmes with words for four concerts given by Donald Francis Tovey at St James Hall, London on 1, 8, 15 and 22 November 1900.

All concerts featured Tovey as both a pianist and composer. Furthermore, each programme is accompanied by an ‘Analytical Essay’, which includes extensive historical and analytical notes, with numerous musical examples.

1 November 1900: small-ensemble vocal and instrumental music by Handel, Mozart, Chopin, Brahms and Tovey, with C. Draper (clarinet), A. Borsdorf (horn), W. Malsch (oboe), E.F. James (bassoon) and Marie Fillunger (vocal).

8 November 1900: piano music by Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms and Weber and songs by Schubert and Beethoven, with Marie Fillunger (vocal). This programme includes certain addenda and corrigenda to the notes given in relation to the first performance of the series.

15 November 1900: including piano quintets by Robert Schumann and Tovey and Bach, Cantata No. 51, with the Kruse String Quartet (J. Kruse, C Schilsky, A.E. Ferir and H. Walenn) and Mr Walter Morrow (trumpet).

22 November 1900: piano music by Beethoven, Chopin and Tovey, a violin piece by Mozart and vocal works by J.S. Bach, with Miss Maud MacCarthy (violin), Mr. Malsch (oboe), Miss Fillunger (vocal).
