Collection Description

Collection Title
Ancient Concerts (1870)
Unique Identifier
The programme for an Ancient Concert, given at the Queen's Concert Rooms, Hanover Square, London on 28 June 1870.

This was a two-part concert of eighteenth and early nineteenth-century vocal and choral repertory, with orchestral overtures at the start of each act. The first part of the concert began with the National Anthem and consisted solely of sacred/oratorio music. The second part contained secular repertory and concluded with a Selection from 'Loreley' by Mendelssohn.

The programme cites the involvement of Mr Raynham and Madame Lemmens-Sherrington (vocal), with Edward J. Hopkins (organ), conducted by Mr Barnby.

There is also an extensive list of the Patrons/Patronesses for the concerts.
