Description
A complete set of programmes for the four series of Amateur Concerts, held at the City of London Tavern between 1818 and 1822, conducted by Sir George Smart, arranged chronologically as a single bound volume.

In addition to the concert programmes, discussed in more detail below, the volume includes a letter to Smart on behalf of the directors and an index of the collection compiled by Smart.

The concerts were given on the following dates:
17 December 1818 and 7 and 21 January, 4 and 18 February and 4 March 1819.
16 and 30 December 1819 and 13 January, 24 February, 9 March, and 13 April 1820.
21 December 1820, 11 and 25 January, 8 and 22 February, and 15 March 1821.
20 December 1821, 3 and 24 January and 7, 14 and 28 February 1822.

These were two-part miscellaneous concerts consisting principally of vocal repertory but with an orchestral overture/symphony at the beginning (and often the end) of each act.

Each programme lists a group of 4 directors, one of whom is credited with the selection of the music for the evening. Those for 22 February 1821 and 20 December 1821 include brief, descriptive programme notes for Beethoven, Pastoral Symphony and the finale to the Act I of Mozart, Don Giovanni.
