Description
This collection contains four bound volumes of programmes for concerts given by the Manchester Vocal Society, under the conductorship of Henry Watson, at various venues. The programmes in the volumes date from 28/10/1867 to 28/3/1917. The volumes also serve as scrapbooks for newspaper cuttings and other ephemera connected with the society. There are also two folders containing loose programmes for concerts given by the society. The first folder contains the following programmes:

Collections Overview
The Henry Watson Music Library is named after Dr. Henry Watson, a renowned composer and teacher born in nearby Accrington. After his death in 1911 he bequeathed the contents of his private library to the care of Manchester City Council. Watson's original collection (some 16,700 volumes) has been supplemented by many important donations and acquisition since and has grown into one of the largest collections of music in any public library.
