Collection Description

Collection Title
Royal Academy of Music New Music Club (1955-1960)
Description
A collection of one album of programmes and other ephemera from performances by the New Music Club, 1955 to 1960. In addition to printed and typed programmes, the album also contains handwritten details of some concerts. The volume is arranged chronologically, with a handwritten, alphabetical listing of composers who are represented in the volume, appearing at the end of the album.

The concerts took place at the Royal Academy of Music, and featured a variety of genres of “new music” including solo instrumental works, chamber music and orchestral works. Concerts often featured a mixture of student works and other twentieth-century items. Occasionally, concerts featured musicians from the Guildhall School of music.
