Collection Title
BBC Concerts (1949-1950)
Description
A collection of 24 programmes form concerts organised by the BBC, from 1949 to 1950. Some programmes contain analytical programme notes, which occasionally use musical examples.
The majority of programmes are from concerts given by the BBC Symphony Orchestra. A number of these concerts were conducted by Adrian Boult. There are programmes from the Royal Albert Hall, which are mainly from “BBC Symphony Concerts”: the remainder include concerts organised by the Royal Philharmonic Society and the Henry Wood Concert Society. The collection contains a number of provincial programmes, from the following venues: Guildhall, Cambridge; Regal Cinema, Cambridge; Town Hall, Leeds; Royal Hall, Harrogate; Eastbrook Hall, Bradford; Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool; Ulster Hall, Belfast; Assembly Hall, Walthamstow.
There are programmes from Bach Commemorative Concerts, organised by the BBC. These took place in the Concert Hall, Broadcasting House and featured the Boyd Neel orchestra as well as the BBC Chorus.
This collection is an almost exact duplicate of another Royal College of Music collection; however, this collection lacks a programme from 14/12/1949, present in the near-duplicate volume.
Arrangement:
The programmes are divided between BBCSO programmes then Bach Commemorative Concerts programmes. The BBCSO programmes are divided between London and the provinces. The provincial programmes are organised chronologically, and the London programmes are divided into BBC and non-BBC promoted concerts, and arranged chronologically within these subdivisions. The Bach Commemorative Concerts programmes are arranged chronologically.
